Travelers of Color: 10 Books, 1 Summer Workshop

It’s New Year’s list time again, and I’m absolutely thrilled to have made PASTE magazines’s essential, epic list:

Ten Travel Books by People of Color

It starts with the Negro Motorist’s Green Book, which lets you know that this ground-breaking list is going to be – necessarily – historic, and gets real modern. It’s a great start. What would you add?

While we’re on the topic, this week VONA: VOICES OF OUR NATIONS ARTS, the only multi-genre workshop for writers of color in the nation, stunned the San Francisco Bay Area community by announcing its relocation to Miami. We will also be returning to the original 2-week format, which means lots and lots of options. I will be teaching the Travel Writing Workshop, which I piloted last year, during Week 2 (June 28-July 4). Independence Day in Miami, anyone? Applications are now live, due March 15.
