How do we turn our life journeys and family tales into gripping stories with deeper (social, spiritual, cultural, historical, political) meaning? Stories that capture a particular culture and era and move readers?
In this generative workshop we will learn to move in both directions personal narrative travels — down into the self for the specific details that make our stories unique, and out into the world for the metaphors and themes that touch others. We’ll investigate our names and generational markers, create personal history timelines, map our bodies and neighborhoods, and use sensory exercises to uncover our most evocative memories.
Peer feedback and short published examples will help make the connections between our personal experiences and the larger stories we have to tell.

Manuscript Critique – Page Option ($7.50 / page of poetry or 250 words prose); 10 page minimum
The same services as above except that additional readings of and feedback on revisions incur the hourly rate.
Line/Copy Editing – Hourly Option ($50.00 / hour)
Line/Copy Editing – Page Option ($5.00 / page of poetry or 250 words prose); 15 page minimum
Done in Track Changes. NOTE: The manuscript should be in its final stages, as I will not address content or structural issues.
PAYMENT: I have included both a per page and a per hour rate, as it can be difficult for new clients to have a sense of how long it will take me to read their work. Note that different reading goals take different times, and early drafts may be slow going. Upon entering into our agreement/rate type/timeframe, you pay a $100.00 deposit, with the remaining balance or refund due upon completion of the work. I’m half-Nigerian, so yes, I negotiate.
$100 Critique/Editing Deposit
Mentoring/Coaching Services ($75.00 / hour)
For longer-term coaching or mentoring for writers who want personal support and advice that is not necessarily limited to a single project. Together, you and I will decide on the structure of the mentorship—what our goals are both for the mentorship as a whole and for each separate stage of it. Contact takes place via email, phone conversations, or both. In addition to critique and line editing, I offer reading recommendations, personalized exercises, writing deadlines—everything you would hope for and expect from a writing coach or a workshop leader.
